Android sees 900,000 activated devices daily

Surprising rumours with concerns of Google’s senior VP of Mobile Andy Rubin who was suspected of planning to leave Google to join for a startup called CloudCar has now be set straight. Andy Rubin cleared everything up on Google+ stating that he only gives CloudCar free office space in Los Altos, which is obviously how the rumour came about.

Following this announcement, he also tweeted:

“No plans to leave Google. Oh, and just for meme completeness – there are over 900,000 android devices activiated each day @Scobleizer”

Back in February Google had announced that they were activating 850,000 Androids meaning it is only a matter of time before the Android reaches the one million mark, which will be a huge milestone for Google Mobile.

Android Central explained that activations occur whenever a new Android device has a Google account signed into it. Each device only being counted the first time the device is registered meaning that you could say that over 900,000 people are buying new Android devices every day.

Many are saying Rubin slipped that figure to the public to try and pull the spotlight off Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Either way most of the spotlight was still fixed on the WWDC 2012 where iOS 6 and Apple’s new MacBook was unveiled.
