How to drive traffic and improve your Alexa Rank

Do you know what your Alexa Rank is? You may be interested to know as it shows just how popular your website is compared to your competitors.

How does Alexa measure traffic?

Alexa can only measure the traffic it can see. Alexa gets its data from internet users who’ve installed the toolbar and estimates from there, this may be the reason why you don’t have a rank yet, as the tool isn’t reliable for sites that don’t have much traffic. It also gathers data from website that has the ranking JavaScript added.

The Alexa Rank may not be 100% accurate but it does give you the best insight to how well your website is performing compared to your competition.

How to rank higher?

Of course you want to drive as much traffic as possible to your website, which will in turn improve your Alexa Rank but how do you go about doing this?

Here’s how you can drive traffic to your website and improve your Alexa Rank:

1.       Blog consistently

We know creating original and interesting content can be a challenging task, especially when you have to come up with a couple of articles a week but a blog is guaranteed to draw in traffic.

It’s no good just posting an article every once in a while, you need to try and post consistently. If you only have time to write one article a week then make sure you post at least one article a week. If the articles are good and the reader sees you post weekly they will continue to revisit your website to see if you have posted a new article.

2.       Send out newsletters

Newsletters can be a great way to draw in existing and potential clients. You may be surprised by the amount of email addresses you have collected over the years.

A newsletter can consist of anything you like, a new offer, recent blog posts or even your current property listings. And by sending out weekly/monthly mailers you are giving the recipient a reason to return to your website.

3.       Keep an active social network account

As with the consistent blogging, keeping an active social presence can draw in a lot of new traffic, by post recent blog articles, local news, informative industry new and possibly on occasion post a property listing could get your followers returning to your website frequently. Be careful not to post too many property listings though as these properties won’t be relevant to all your followers and could become annoying leading to them unfollowing you.

4.       Encourage visitors to share your site

If you are posting a blog post it is good idea to have social share buttons on the page, making it easy for the reader to share the blog post with their friends/family.

The more people that share the post, the more traffic you get to your website.
