5 SEO Pitfalls You Must Avoid

Online search is one of the most common ways in which consumers find local businesses, with around 85% of consumers using the internet to find businesses in their area.

Online search and SEO has changed drastically over the last few years, meaning what once may have worked for you might actually be harming you now. Avoiding changing your SEO efforts could result in your rankings declining considerably, resulting in a lose of traffic to your website.

Here are 5 SEO pitfalls you must avoid:

1) Ignoring mobile-friendliness

Mobile search dominates Google, that’s why Google has implement mobile-first indexing. Without a mobile-friendly website your SEO will suffer. Google are constantly changing their algorithm to favour mobile-friendliness so if you don’t have a fully responsive website get one!

2) Not registering

Estate agents must register all of their offices on Google My Business. Setting up these accounts are very easy, free and take very little time but have huge benefits for all local businesses, improving their SEO and making it easier for people to find and contact them.

You should also register with Bing as well as other local directories.

Ensure every listing you have online is set up correctly with the same name, address and phone number. This is crucial.

3) Not encouraging reviews

When it comes to local SEO, reviews carry a lot of weight. The more reviews you have the more likely you are to appear higher up in the search engine results. Quality reviews are of course favoured by Google, so try to encourage your customers to leave genuine reviews regularly for you.

4) Ignoring content

Content may seem dull to you but it is the best way to drive traffic to your website and boost your SEO. Every estate agent should have a business blog where they publish interesting and informative content aimed at their audience.

Google loves fresh content; your audience loves fresh content so why ignore it?

5) Relying too much on SEO

SEO is obviously still very important, but it’s not the only online marketing strategy you should have. SEO should be one marketing channel you use along with social media, email marketing and various other online marketing strategies.

This way you will have a better chance of reaching your target audience and driving more people to your website.
