Big Google Search Updates Are Potentially Happening

It appears that Google may have made a few tweaks to their search rankings algorithm which could have caused your positioning within Google to either rise or fall depending on how the update affected your website.

Google is yet to confirm the update but there has been a lot of talk in the SEO community regarding shifts in rankings and John Mueller, a Google Webmaster Trends Analyst, has commented saying it is not related to the Penguin algorithm (which suggests an algorithm update was release).

According to the SEO community, it appears that two noticeable updates have happened in the last week.

The first is assumed to be a larger update which seems to have impacted the core web search and the second update is likely to be focused on local search rankings in Google.

At this time, it isn’t clear what sort of core search ranking update Google has put in place but according to a vast number of SEOs there has been a lot of movement in the search engine results overnight.

As for the local search update, again it hasn’t been confirmed but we believe it may have something to do with a quality update, where Google is removing a lot of spammy local results. However, it may not solely be a quality update but an all-round local ranking algorithm update.

Hopefully Google will announce these updates soon, we will keep you posted.
