The Galaxy X – foldable phone

| Technology

Samsung are well-known for their innovative technologies, especially in the smartphone world and if the rumours are true what the company’s got lined up for next year could be mind-blowing.

In the past we have seen many prototypes of foldable devices, yet they have seemed like a pipedream and a long way off from public release. However, rumour has it that Samsung will be releasing a smartphone with a single screen that folds in half so you can put your mobile in your pocket like a wallet.

The new foldable smartphone will supposedly be called the Galaxy X. If the rumours are true it will also feature 4K resolution display with a diamond PenTile subpixel matrix.

The latest rumour claims that Samsung’s foldable phone will be one of five flagships releases in 2017.

The report says that Samsung’s other flagships set to be released next year are pretty standard compared to the Galaxy X. We should expect to see the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Edge, Galaxy Note 7 and a Galaxy Note 7 Edge. All of which will see slight boosts in performance compared to the current models.

We know Samsung has had their sights set on a foldable smartphone since last year thanks to several leaks and patent applications, but we did see concepts of a foldable phone from Samsung from as far back as 2011.

So could 2017 be the year that we can finally get our hands on a foldable smartphone?
