iPhone 7 Unveiled

| Technology

We’ve spent the last few months trying to predict the spec, design and features that the iPhone 7 will possess but now the guessing is over!

Last night, Apple unveiled the iPhone 7 so here’s everything you need to know:

1) Similar Design

At a glance you may not be able to tell the difference between the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 6. The shape and size is almost identical, however there are a few minor difference.

As expected there’s no headphone jack, they have also got rid of the plastic strips on the back of the phone and the camera lens is of course different.

Apart from that the phone looks practically the same; however it comes in a variety of different colours. The iPhone 7 comes in Jet Black, Matte Black, Silver, Gold and Rose Gold.

2) No Headphone Jack

Apple has got rid of the headphone jack as expected, but don’t worry Apple have included a pair of lightning cable headphones as well as a lightning adapter for regular headphones.

They have also unveiled their wireless earbuds called AirPods, that last 5 hours on a single charge.

If you were wonder, it turns out that the main reason they got rid of the headphone jack was down to keeping the water out…

3) Its Waterproof

Finally, Apple has released the first water resistant iPhone that should survive an accidental dunking in water.

It will also keep out the dust as they have entirely sealed the phone.

4) No More 16GB iPhones

The 16GB iPhone has always been a little bit pointless so Apple has now scrapped it completely.

The iPhone 7 has new storage levels which go 32GB, 128GB, and a massive 256GB!

5) More Power

The iPhone 7 comes with an all new A10 chip which could possibly be the most powerful smartphone processor in the world (according to Apple).

It is supposedly 40% faster than the current iPhone 6S and uses less power so doesn’t drain your battery as fast.

6) Longer Battery Life

Apple has said that the iPhone 7 will get 2 more hours of battery life than its predecessor, due to the more efficient processors.

7) Camera Upgrade

Of course, there are a few differences between the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus when it comes to the camera but there’s a few upgrades to both.

It’s still has a 12MP sensor but it’s 60% faster and 30% more energy efficient. The lens is bigger which that it lets more light in and it has four LEDs that let in 50% more light in dark scenes.

The front camera now has a 7MP FaceTime HD sensor too.

The iPhone 7 Plus has a second 56mm lens which is a huge upgrade. This improves the quality of zoomed in photos as it lets you some up to 10x without loss in quality.

8) New Touch ID Button

The Home button as we know it is no more as it is no longer a button.

Instead it has been replaced by Force Touch that means it can detect how hard you push the Home button down, which gives you customised vibrations for things like notifications and apps.

Apple didn’t show off this feature too much so it isn’t clear on how useful it will be but it has a lot of potential.

9) Cost and Release Dates

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will be launched at exactly the same price as the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus in the states but unfortunately for us Brits prices start at £599 rather than £539 like its predecessors.

The 128GB iPhone 7 is priced at £699 and the 256GB will be £799.

And you will be able to pre-order the iPhone 7 from Friday and it will be shipped on the 16th September!
