What Should You Include Above The Fold

The term “above the fold” refers to the portion of a web page that is visible without scrolling down.

This is prime real estate for any website as it is the first thing your visitors will see on your website but what sort of information should you include above the fold?

1) Your Logo

This single image identifies your brand; make sure it is visible on every single page of your website above the fold.

2) Primary navigation

The primary navigation is one of the most important elements of any website. Your content needs to be well organised into appropriate categories. The primary navigation should naturally guide users through your entire site.

For example:

Home > Property Search > Services > Area profile > Contact Us

3) Property Search Function

Every estate agency website should have a prominent property search function. Over 95% of visitors to an estate agency website will click on property search within 5 seconds of the site opening.

It is important for you to give your users a clear call-to-action and tell your visitors exactly where to click.

4) Social media links

Social media is an important part of any business these days so make sure your visitors can find your social accounts easily.

5) Important elements

Property search isn’t the only call-to-action that needs to be clearly displayed. Any sign up buttons like Email Alerts or a Mailing List/Newsletter sign up should be visible above the fold.

A lot of your visitors may not come to your site to sign up to anything but if these buttons are clearly displayed right in front of them you will have a greater chance of attracting more sign ups.

A good rule of thumb is to include all your most important elements that define your brand and promote your business. But don’t go crazy and try to stuff everything above the fold, keep this area clear and simple.
