Websites for Estate Agents 2013

What does 2013 hold for websites for estate agents? With all these different devices that your audience uses, a simple website isn’t enough anymore. Your website may look good on a PC but crushed down onto a mobile will change the user experience completely and not in a good way.

Here’s what to expect for web design for estate agents in 2013...

Post PC:

2012 is the year PC sales for the first time since 2001 were lower than they were the previous year.

So what are people buying? The simple answer... mobile devices!

Tablet sales are expected to exceed 100 million this year. It has been suggested that their sales numbers may even top notebooks next year.

And the Smartphone of course has also taken a slice of the market.

The shift from PC to mobile is happening at an astonishing rate. Today, 20% of Resource Techniques traffic comes from mobile and on average for Estate Agency websites around 30% of their traffic comes from mobile devices. This is likely to rise by at least 10% in 2013.

Web? Apps? Or both?

All these new devices are great but with all these different screen sizes, means we have to build for all of them.

In reality most of you won’t be able to build a business platform for all these different devices but you can build one that reaches a good number of them.

Responsive web design

This is the solution, make a website that works equally well on every device. Responsive web design uses “media queries” to figure out what the resolution is of the device that it’s being served up on and adjusts it to fit the screen.

The benefits:

You build a website once and it can work across thousands of different screens!

Whatever business decisions you decide to do in 2013, be sure that your users are getting a great experience on every screen.
