New handle for McLaren at Spanish Grand Prix

Commercial Agents who follow Formula One and like to use social media to keep tabs on developments in pit lane will be interested in McLaren’s unveiling this weekend.

Vodafone McLaren Mercedes used this weekends Spanish Grand Prix to unveil their new Twitter handle @McLarenF1. This replaces the old @TheFifthDriver handle that the team had been using. The aim is to make it easier for the growing global fan base to identify and engage with McLaren.

The Woking based team has had a growing social media following. Just over the past 12 months have seen a 40% increase in the number of followers on the teams Facebook page to in excess of 700,000. There has also been an 80% increase on Twitter with almost 350,000 followers.

You can see the new handle on the driven by Jenson Button and Sergio Perez.

At the beginning of the 2013 season, the team also re-launched its official website and there are plans for a Spanish language version to meeting the growing amount of traffic since the Mexican driver Sergio Perez joined the team.
