LG Optimus Vu: Will it stand out in the Smartphone market?

The LG Optimus Vu has been unveiled and the 5 inch handset looks to be going head to head with the 5.3 inch Samsung Galaxy Note but can the LG outperform the Galaxy Note?

The specification of the Optimus Vu outshines the Galaxy Note with a 1.5GHz Qualcomm processor paired with 1GB RAM compared to the Galaxy Notes 1.4GHz. It also comes with an 8 megapixel camera which matches the Note’s camera but doesn’t quite compare with the Android 2.3.

The interesting thing about the LG Optimus Vu is that it has an aspect ratio of 4:3 which is the same ratio used by older TVs.

The LG has gone with an unlikely shape, although that isn’t uncommon for LG but I can see benefits to the Optimus Vu’s chunkiness. Almost all modern TV programmes and films are still framed to accommodate viewers with 4:3 sets, which is debatably a better ratio for smaller screens. This is what separates the Optimus Vu from all the other Smartphone’s on the market.

Whether LG’s new Smartphone can put a noticeable dent in the Galaxy Notes sales is unclear but 5 inch plus screens are known to be unpopular in the Smartphone market.
