Google unveil Project Glasses

Google has unveiled what they are calling “Project Glass”, these reality eyeglasses that keep Google services closer to you than ever before. The glasses are capable of displaying text messages, appointments, weather, live chats and maps right in your field of vision.

Check out this cool video on Google: Project Glasses Google Plus page which shows a video of a man wearing the device doing normal day to day activities.

The ability to follow walking directions without having to look down at your phone constantly does seem quite appealing as does locating friends nearby but in real time would this really be so simple?

Would people really accept these glasses as conventional eyewear?

Obviously it’s hard to say what the glasses will be like from just watch a short video clip but for now I’m hoping Google will make this product as good as it looks.

From their Google Plus page we can see that Google is trying to give these glasses some fashion appeal with the modelled promo shots but can you really see people wearing these on a day to day basis? This will be a crucial part in the success of this product, and Google knows this with reports saying that Google are exploring different designs, some of which include being able to wear them over existing glasses.

While you may just think these glasses are a novelty toy, one of the people who have been testing them has said “they let technology get out of your way. If I want to take a picture I don’t have to reach into my pocket and take out my phone; I just press a button at the top of the glasses and that’s it.”

Fingers crossed this product catches on.
