Finally, Google+ will be rolling out vanity URLs

Google+ is to be introducing vanity URLs which will allow its users to further customise their Google+ profiles with a unique easy to remember URL for example plus.google.com/+ResourceTechniques.

Google announced Monday that the vanity URLs are short and easy to remember web addresses that link directly to the user’s profile.

Right now each Google+ member is identified by a long string of numbers like this https://plus.google.com/108661104794439014924.

Saurabh Sharma, a product manager at Google said in a recent post that the personalised address will be “available to people and pages worldwide”, however did not specify a date.

For the time being these personalised URLs will be limited to a number of verified profiles and pages like David Beckham and Britney Spears as well as popular brands like Toyota but Google are planning on making this available to everyone in the near future.

These URLs will make it easier for users to find your profiles through Google+ as well as the search engines. Fans have been waiting a long time for Google+ to follow in the footsteps of other social networks like Facebook and Twitter with this feature so reactions have been very positive about this latest announcement.

Stay tuned to ensure you are the first to be able to choose your vanity URL as there is nothing more annoying than someone with the same name getting their first!
