Facebook hits one billion user milestone

Last week Mark Zuckerberg the founder of Facebook announced that the site has officially crossed the one billion user mark.

The huge milestone for the Social giant has been anticipated for quite some time now but the reality of it is still an amazing achievement in the history of the Internet.

Mark Zuckerberg posted this statement on the site:

This morning, there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month.

If you're reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honor of serving you.

Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life.

I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too.”

Facebooks user base has been growing steadily since it began in 2004 and managed to hit the 500 million user mark in 2010. Facebook actually confirmed that the site reached the one billion mark on the 14th September.

With many people already saying that the sites numbers are most likely being boosted by fake and abandoned accounts, Facebook have stated that the numbers represent the active users who regularly log on and use the site but they have also admitted that around 8.7% of its accounts may be questionable...

However, with over 40 million users in the UK, Estate Agents need to recognise the huge potential this social network has to promote their business.
