Google’s Android mobile operating system turned 5 years old this week! Back in November 2007, the Open Handset Alliance announced Android, a new open source mobile phone operating system.
Their goal was to develop modern mobile devices, giving consumers a better user experience than other mobile platforms.
The first Android Smartphone, the HTC Dream, was released in October 2008, a year after Apple had announced its first generation iPhone.
Although the HTC Dream didn’t really match up to the iPhone, it wasn’t long until they released the real game-changer, the HTC Magic which came along the following year.
Android have come a long way in just five years. Last week the latest statistics showed that the operating system accounted for around two-thirds of all Smartphone shipments during the third quarter, which is an amazing 91.5 percent increase since this time last year.
It was also announced that the Nexus 7 shifted one million units for the first time in October, 300,000 more than the month before.Â
So what will the next 5 years of Android bring?
