Who Will Be The First Company Worth $1 Trillion?
07 March, 2018 | Technology
The race is on, which tech giant will be the first to become the world’s first trillion dollar company?
Financial experts and investors predict that 2018 will be the year that the first company to ever have a stock market valuation of $1 trillion (£738 billion) or over will happen.
2017 was a good year for the tech industry with share prices rising at a significant rate, and if they continue to do so it is likely that at least one will be valued at $1 trillion by the end of the year.
Of course, Apple is leading the race (as of the end of 2017) with a massive market valuation of $869 billion, up 47% from $617 billion in 2016, mostly due to the iPhone.
Apple is just ahead of Google’s parent company Alphabet, which has a market value of $729 billion.
Microsoft took third place at the close of 2017 with a valuation of $660 billion, but analysts believe Amazon is far more likely to reach the $1 trillion valuation due to its exceptionally fast growth.
Amazon is the fourth most valuable company with a market value of $563 billion, with Amazons shares increasing by 58% since 2016, turning its CEO into the richest man in the world.
And Facebook took the fifth spot, after only 6 years on the stock market with a valuation of $512 billion.
The top five companies, all of which are tech companies have a collective worth of $3.33 trillion, which is more than the gross domestic product of the UK.
Many financial experts expect tech stocks to continue to rise throughout 2018, so it is only a matter of time before we see the world’s first $1 trillion company!
