What to expect at Google I/O 2017

Google’s biggest event of the year is just hours away but what can we expect to see at this year’s Google I/O?

As with all these types of events there will surely be some surprises but we can make a pretty good guess of what we are likely to see at this year’s Google I/O –

Android O(reo?)

Google started releasing developer previews of Android O months ago but Google I/O is where we find out about the new operating system in a lot more detail.

From the preview, we know that their main focus is notifications and battery life.

What Google will decide to call it is anyone’s guess. Last year, they went down the crowd-source route but they may already have a name picked out. Currently, the favourite among fans seems to be Android Oreo.

Google Assistant

Google Assistant is expected to be one of the main focuses of this year’s I/O.

The digital assistant has already started opening up to third party developers but it is expected open up more, be less limited than at present and will start letting more developers into Google Assistant.

Daydream Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality

Google’s head of virtual reality is set to begin the keynote on the second day of I/O, and we expect to see some very exciting developments from the virtual and augmented reality teams.

Daydream is expected to get an update and some signs also point towards augmented reality…

Google Tango, Google’s augmented reality platform is definitely due for some updates and as they are expected to join the virtual reality team on stage at I/O, fans are hoping for some kind of Daydream-Tango integration.

Android Auto

Google announced that Android would be the default option for infotainment in the new Volvo and Audi vehicles, and we can expect to see this new software on display at I/O this year. This means fans will get the chance to see how Android will handle dealing with all the voice activated features with the cars like controlling music, navigation, etc.

Android Wear

Although we aren’t expecting much from Android Wear, (as Android Wear 2.0 is just making its way to customers) we can expect to hear something regarding the wearable technology; however what they will share is currently a mystery.

We don’t have to wait long to find out what Google will be unveiling at this years I/O. So for all the latest news and updates from Google I/O 2017, stay tuned…
