The Unbreakable Smartphone Screen

Shattered smartphone screens are a common occurrence in this day and age. Even with the latest advancements in the industry such as Gorilla Glass, a low drop can still result in a cracked screen.

Yet, Samsung may have found a solution. The tech giant announced a new smartphone screen that they say is “unbreakable”.

Samsung have created a flexible OLED display which they claim has an “unbreakable substrate and an overlay window securely adhered to it.”

And it’s not only Samsung making these claims. The screen has been evaluated by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) who have certified it as “unbreakable”.

Underwriters Laboratories are an official testing company for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor. The testing involves the panel being dropped from a height of 1.2 metres (4 foot) 26 times as well as being subjected to temperatures of 71 degrees to -32 degrees Celsius.

And the screen showed no damage whatsoever. The panel was even dropped from 1.8 metres (6 foot) and still showed no sign of damage.

Samsung are yet to announce what devices they plan to use this panel on but are holding a big event on 9th August in New York so we may get to hear more about this unbreakable screen soon.
