Most popular iOS apps of 2016

Apple has revealed the most downloaded iOS apps of 2016 and it will come as no surprise that Snapchat took the top spot for most downloaded (free) app in the App Store.

Snapchat beat the likes of Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, YouTube and even Pokémon Go to take the top spot, whereas last year’s number 1, Trivia Crack, didn't even make the top 10.

It has been a huge year for Snapchat, they have reported that their users are viewing 10 billion videos per day, up from 2 billion last year and have over 10 million active daily users in the UK.

Snapchat did make the list last year but only ranked number 5, but its popularity this year has seen it be one of the fastest growing social networks around.

The majority of the list is the usual suspects such as Facebook, YouTube and Google Maps which have made the top 10 app download list for the last few years; however there are several new comers such as this summer’s smash hit Pokémon Go and Netflix. Check out the list below:

As for the most downloaded iOS paid apps, Heads Up! took the top spot for the second year running.
