Is The iPhone In Trouble?

There has been a lot of talk regarding the latest iPhones not selling as well as expected. With reports suggesting that Apple will only sell 45 million iPhones during its first quarter of 2019, which would be the lowest since 2012.

It appears that the iPhone XS Max is particularly struggling, with Citi Research analyst William Yang estimating that sales will be falling by a massive 48%.

To add more fuel to the fire, due to the lack of demand, Apple have now started to offer trade in credit for your old devices, which will bring the price of the iPhone XR and iPhone XS down by £250 if you trade in an iPhone 7 Plus.

However, it’s not all bad news for the Apple iPhone. Despite the demand for Apple’s new iPhone devices being down, that doesn’t mean it isn’t gaining up on Androids market dominance.

In 2018, Apple had a lot of pressure from Android devices with a new one being launched almost every month from Samsung, Sony, LG, Huawei, OnePlus and Xiaomi all of which are producing Google-powered devices.

Yet, more and more Android users seem to be switching to Apple’s iPhone XR.

The iPhone XR is Apple’s “budget” smartphone that packs a pretty big punch in terms of its spec and is significantly cheaper than the new iPhone XS.

The latest report from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, shows that there has been a 5% increase in Android users switching to the Apple XR compared to previous iPhones.

The report also shows that 82% of people who bought the new iPhone XR had upgraded from an older iPhone and 16% upgraded from an Android device.

Compared to the only 11% who upgraded from Android to the new iPhone X in 2017.

Apple revealed last year that it would no longer reveal official sales figures for its products, but the firm has hinted that the new iPhone XR is selling well.

Apple’s vice president of product marketing Greg Joswiak confirmed that the iPhone XR is currently the company's most popular iPhone, saying “Since the iPhone XR became available, it’s been the best-selling iPhone each and every day that it’s been on sale.”

Although Apple hasn’t officially confirmed any of these reports, it is pretty clear that the flagship iPhone range isn’t performing as well as expected and it will be interesting to see what the tech giant have planned to turn it around in 2019.
