Big hit for PC in 2013

Sales of desktop computers and laptops were predicted to fall by 9.7% during 2013; however they have dropped by 10.1% during the last 12 months.

PC sales have continually fallen for the last year and a half, which is the longest continuous drop in sales for the PC.

The blame is said to be due to the rise in popularity of Smartphones and Tablets. Experts predict in 2014, that the Tablet will sell around 50% of all computer sales.

Sales of the PC are said to be expected to continue to fall into next year but the rate of which sales are falling will slow down at some point in 2014.

According to IDC, PC sales will get worse before it gets better with PC shipments expected to decline another 4% at the beginning of next year before it is expected to take a slight turn upwards.

IDC have also said that the PC remains to be a primary device and is in fact used more throughout the day than the tablet or smartphone. Yet with the increase in mobile devices flooding the mobile market, the bulky PCs will continue to lose out in the popularity contest.
