Apple has sold a billion iPhones

| Technology

Apple has announced that they have sold their billionth iPhone weeks before the release of the highly anticipated iPhone 7.

The tech giant released the original iPhone back on June 29th 2007.

The announcement came shortly after Apple revealed their quarterly earnings for the third quarter of 2016. They also announced that they had sold 40.4 million iPhone devices in the last quarter alone.

This is a massive milestone for Apple, and it is even more impressive when you consider that Apple only sold its 500 millionth iPhone in March 2014 and its 700 millionth iPhone a little over a year ago in March 2015.

The huge increase in iPhone sales over the last year is most likely down to the increased sales in places like China.

At the start of the year, Apple announced that they had more than a billion active devices which include iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, Macs and Apple TVs.

Despite reaching this impressive milestone, Apple is still trailing behind Google who announced that their devices had a billion active users in June 2014. However, this isn’t very surprising considering how many separate devices use Android software.

It will be interesting to see how successful the iPhone 7 is when it is unveiled next month.
