10 Tips To Improve Your iPhone Performance

As your iPhone gets older, it will increasingly get slower and a little annoying to use at times. The battery life will drain quicker, and things just won’t work as they once did.

If you have an older iPhone, we have 10 tips and tricks to help you squeeze more life out of your smartphone:

1) Don’t Close Your Apps

It’s a common misconception that force-quitting your apps will prolong the battery life of your phone but the problem is that these apps actually require more power to reopen them, which will drain your battery faster.

Stop closing down frequently used apps.

2) Always Update ASAP

iOS updates will usually address any bug issues that may cause your iPhone to glitch or work slower than usual.

It is crucial that you are always running the latest version of iOS. To do so, simply go to Settings > General > Software Update and it will tell you if your software is up to date or not.

3) Turn Off Automatic Downloads

If an app has a significant update then it can really mess with your iPhone’s performance. Switch off automatic downloads by going to Settings >iTunes and App Store and under AUTOMATIC DOWNLOADS switch all the toggles to off.

4) Delete Cookies and Cache

Clearing out your cookies and caches can help speed up your iPhone. You can easily do this for Safari under the main settings, Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. However, you may have to go through each individual app to clear out the rest.

5) Delete Unused Apps

The average iPhone user uses 9 apps daily, so why do you have 50 apps downloaded on your smartphone? If you haven’t used an app in the last few weeks, delete it! Same rule applies for unnecessary photos and attachments listed in your iPhone storage settings.

You can see how much memory you are wasting by going to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. Here you will be able to see how much memory each app takes up and the last time you used it. Delete all apps that you haven’t used in a while!

6) Reduce Motion Effects

Yes, we know they look cool but they drain your battery life and can make your iPhone run poorly if it’s not brand new.

Switch it off by going to Settings > General > Accessibility > Increase Contrast and switch off Reduce Transparency.

7) Get a New Battery

If you have an iPhone 6 or later you will be eligible for a replacement battery for just £25. This may be worth doing if your battery drains quickly.

8) Disable Siri Features

If your iPhone is really struggling then switching off Siri Suggestions and Siri Lookup may help as they can slow down your device. As it’s a feature you probably don’t use much (or at all) disabling these features may be a no-brainer.

To disable, go to Settings > Siri & Search and turn off Suggestions in Search and Suggestions in Look Up.

9) Turn Your Phone Off And On

This is something very few of us actually do but it can really make a difference.

10) Start a Fresh!

If you are really desperate to improve your iPhones performance, you may want to try this.

First, back up all your data onto iTunes or iCloud, then go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.

This will completely reset your iPhone, clearing everything off your device. Once done you can reinstall all the data from iTunes or iCloud and you should see a significant improvement in your iPhones performance.
