Social errors you may be guilty of

The majority of estate agents know that there is potential with social media but struggle to grasp the concept of how it can benefit their business.

Estate agents typically take the wrong approach towards their social media efforts and forget that social networking is about engaging with potential customers, not about constant self-promotion.

Once you figure out what not to do, it will make it easier for you to find success within social media. Here are three of the most common mistakes that may be harming your social networking efforts:

1. Forgetting about social media

Most estate agents have at least one social account but only a handful of them consistently update their profile. Many seem to set it up, post one or two statuses and then forget about it forever.

Your social media accounts should be updated regularly to encourage engagement among your followers.

2. Using social networks to push sales

Coming up with new and interesting content on a regular basis can be difficult, but just posting property listing after property listing isn’t the answer.

If you think of it from your follower’s point of view, the likelihood is that the majority aren’t looking to buy right now and even if they are, they will be looking for something more specific. Posting lots of properties that don’t have any relevance to your audience will just annoy them as it will be clogging up their newsfeed.

Aim to only post statuses that are interesting, fun or informative in general.

3. Biting off more than they can chew

Social media requires a little bit of time and effort. With so many popular social networks around, it is easy for brands to bite off more than they can chew.

Instead of trying to take on all the social networks, it is best for estate agents to devote their time to only one or two.
