Facebook introduces 360 photos

| Social media

The internet is a very visual place and Facebook knows just how powerful imagery can be. With hundreds of millions of photos shared every single day on Facebook, they are going one step further with photos enabling people to share more immersive imagery.

Facebook now lets you share 360 photos on Facebook, all you have to do is take a panorama photo with your smartphone or take a 360 degree photo with your 360 camera and post it on Facebook, just like you would with a normal picture.

Facebook will then convert the photo into an immersive 360 photo that gives people a more interactive photo to view.

These images will be easily identified within the News Feed as they will have a compass icon on the top right-hand side of the photo.

Viewers are able to view the 360 photos in full by either clicking and dragging on the web or tilting and moving their smartphones in any direction.

This new feature gives us the chance to be more creative with our photos and will also enable your viewers to explore your 360 photos in virtual reality with the Samsung Gear VR, Google Cardboard or any of the other VR headsets powered by smartphones.

360 photos are available now on Facebook via the web and the Facebook app.

Want to take a 360 photo?

Here’s how you can take a 360 Facebook photo:

  • Take a panorama on your smartphone or by using a 360 photo app or 360 camera.
  • Open up the Facebook app and share the photo just like you would any other photo.
  • Your 360 photo should now be posted. It’s that simple!

Have fun experimenting and getting creative with Facebook’s 360 photos!
