3 Billion People Use Social Media

When it comes to marketing your business on social media, the possibilities are endless. This endless potential comes from the sheer volume of users worldwide and the latest reports actually show us that almost half the planet is using some form of social media!

It is estimated that there are 7.524 billion people on Earth, 3.819 billion of which are internet users which is roughly 51% of the world’s population.

According to a new report put together by We Are Social and Hootsuite, they estimate that there are around 3.028 billion active social media users. That’s 40% of the global population and almost 80% of internet users.

Mobile dominates social media usage with an estimated 2.780 billion active social media users accessing these social platforms via mobile devices.

These numbers are just mindboggling and will only increase as more and more people get access to the internet and become accustom to social media.  

Unbelievably, there has been a 4% increase in active social media users in the last 4 months according to the report, which is around one million new social users a day!

The report also listed the most used social media platforms worldwide by their monthly active users:

1) Facebook – 2.047 billion

2) YouTube – 1.5 billion

3) Whatsapp – 1.2 billion

4) Facebook Messenger – 1.2 billion

5) WeChat – 938 million

6) QQ – 861 million

7) Instagram – 700 million

8) QZone – 638 million

9) Tumblr – 357 million

10) Twitter – 328 million
