Google introduces rich cards

Google has announced that they are evolving rich snippets, which is a way that you can markup pages on your website to enrich how Google displays the page within their search results.

These new ways in which you can display your webpages on Google’s search engine results are called rich cards.

Just like rich snippets, rich cards use structured markup to display content in an even more engaging and visual format by using a card carousel feature and high resolution images to improve the user experience.

For now, Google are only showing rich cards for two categories, recipes and movies. They will also initially only appear on mobile search results on Google.com.

Google are planning to expand rich cards to more types of websites as well as more platforms in the future.

So could this be a new way for Estate Agents to promote their property listings in the future? It is possible that as Google expands their rich card categories they will allow for businesses to promote their products and services using them, although it isn’t likely to be happening anytime soon.

It is also worth noting that Google have added a rich cards report in the Google Search Console, which will help you implement rich cards more effectively and track how your rich cards and rich snippets are performing by showing you the clicks and impressions.

Google’s new Mobile Friendly testing tool

Google has also announced that they have released a new mobile friendly testing tool. The new tool can be found within Google’s Search Console (Google Webmaster). Try it out and see if you pass Google’s mobile friendliness test.
