The iPhone’s next big rival

Samsung’s next big event is just around the corner. Samsung has announced an event on the 21st February where they are planning to unveil “The Next Galaxy”.

The official teaser video from Samsung, shows a man viewing a spinning cube on his Gear VR headset and the cube appears to have a glowing “7” on it and #TheNextGalaxy displayed over it, which leads us to believe Samsung are planning to unveil the Samsung Galaxy S7 later this month.

Just days before this announcement, images of the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge were leaked online by Evan Blass, who has a pretty strong history with his leaks.

From the leaked images there doesn’t seem to be that much of a difference between the Galaxy S6 devices and the Galaxy S7 apart from possibly being a slightly rounder shape. However, if rumours can be believed the Galaxy S7 Edge comes with a 5.5 inch screen instead of a 5.1 inch which its predecessor has.

The other possible change which we can see from the leaked images is that it looks like Samsung may have also made a small change to the flash components.

If these leaked images are real, the design may disappoint their fans given the lack of visible changes.

From the looks of it, Samsung may be following in Apple’s footsteps by releasing a practically identical device with an improved spec.

At least, this is what the rumour mill suspects. The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will be fixing issues such as including a larger internal battery and reintroducing the microSD card slot for expandable storage. It sounds like they may also be adding more RAM and it could be IP68 rated which means the devices will be able to survive being submerged under water (up to a metre deep) for up to 30 minutes just like the Sony Xperia Z5.

However, we will have to wait until the 21st February for the truth. Stay tuned.
