UK Online advertising spend reaches new high
In 2011, online advertising soared to a record high of £4.8
billion. Spending on web ads was up £687 million year on year
which is a 14.4 percent rise.
This surge of online advertising spend is the largest increase
in five years, with mobile, social media and video advertising
taking off in 2011.
Video ads saw a massive growth and are accountable for 10% of
all online display advertising.
Business spending on online video doubled in one year to
£109 million from £54 million in 2010. This is an
incredible growth considering in 2008 video spend was only £12
million.
Banner ads also had a massive boost, with banner ads on social
media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube increasing
by 75% to £240 million.
Mobile advertising rose an amazing 157 percent in 2011, bringing
the total expenditure to £203 million. The huge increase is
credited to the rise in Smartphone users and tablet sales over the
last year.
Online marketing campaigns are always going to play a huge part
in the success of any business online and we can assure you these
figures will continue to rise in the next few years.
