Start with the Long tail
You have a pretty new
Estate Agency website, your content is good and your site
architecture is search engine friendly. You are currently building
up your Social Media campaign and beginning to upload videos to
your website.
You’re now starting to think about your
Search Engine Optimization more and how long it will take
before you start getting a good amount of traffic from search
engines...
From last weeks article
“How long will it take before I get onto page one of
Google?” we realise this may take some time, especially
with brand new websites but how can we speed this process up.
Your main focus should be to build trust between your website
and the search engines. But at the start this is a very tricky
thing to be able to do.
Why go for long tail?
Due to this Google have recently updated their algorithm to try
and help less trusted websites to be able to show for more long
tail traffic and because of this most new websites will gain most
of their traffic from long tail keywords (at least for the first
few months).
Over time the site will obviously gain more trust, due to
gaining more links and writing news features. This will allow your
website to start showing for more keywords that aren’t so
long tail (somewhere in between long tail and head terms).
Finally after all your hard work of marketing and link building,
traffic will start to come from more related keywords (head
terms).
The key point here is that your traffic from the search engines
will start with long tail and you will only start to gain traffic
over time for more related keywords. So you really need to think
hard and consider the long tail part of your keywords.
Obviously this doesn’t mean you should only be trying to
optimise for the long tail keywords. You should just focus on
writing clear relevant content throughout your website.
Your aim should be to produce good site architecture and a broad
range of keywords that help clarify what you’re
promoting.
