Happy birthday Google!
Today is Google’s birthday and to celebrate they have
changed their homepage logo to a painting of a birthday cake by
Wayne
Thiebaud, an American painter who is famous for various pop art
works.
Estate Agents, without going onto the Google homepage, try to take a guess
at exactly how old Google is today – the answer might just
surprise you.
That’s right, within those 12 short years, Google has risen
to become the search engine giant that it is today. Founded by
Sergey Brin and Larry Page in 1998, Google was valued last year at
around 40 billion dollars.
Google now represent 92% of the UK search engine market, 82% of the
US market, and representing 91% of all worldwide searches. When it
comes to Estate
Agent SEO, Google simply cannot be ignored.
Not does Google provide their own stats, but for this special
occasion we at Resource Techniques are going to list the top 5
facts you didn’t know about Google.
- 1. Lego Storage – this was back in 1996
and Lego was chosen because it was cheap and easily expandable when
new hard drives were added.
- 2. Languages – Google searches for
content all across the web in 36 different languages and even
covers Klingon!
- 3. Home page – Google’s famously
simplistic home page was because the two founders didn’t know
HTML and wanted a quick interface.
- 4. I’m feeling lucky – is
reportedly almost never used, but is kept because people love
consistency.
- 5. Goats – Amazingly Google rents goats
as an environmentally friendly way of cutting the grass at the HQ
in California. I wonder what they do with the droppings…
Birthday Bonus: Dogs – Surprisingly
employees can take their dogs into work as long as they’re a
‘good little boy’.
